Easily one of my favorite covers from my time working at San Antonio Magazine, this cover and feature package came together perfectly with the help of Klare Perez. Her photography style had drawn me in for a while, and the experiences that I had working with her prior to this issue led me to want to find new opportunities to work with her again. Because of the nature of the package, I knew the task was going to be a big undertaking, but Klare committed and knocked it out of the park.

When choosing from the cover photo options, something about the photo that ended up on the cover really jumped out at me. It has a particular balance that, despite it's busy nature, really worked for what I wanted to portray on the cover. With a simple and strong headline like "The Makers" the typography could grow in size, allowing the business of the photo to actually work in our favor.

From there, my focus switched to the feature package. We had wanted her photography to be the highlight of the feature, meaning we pushed the size of the photos as large as we could make them. Using strong colors to support her photo style, and simple but stylistic typographic moments dotted throughout, the whole package seemed to have come together like a glove.
